Château Haut-Batailley Pauillac (Grand Cru Classé) 2020 - France

€84.95

The blend

The Château Haut-Batailley 2020 was made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (62%) and Merlot (38%).

The vintage

While the winter was marked by heavy rainfall, the mild conditions of spring favoured the early development of the vines. At the end of April, despite a few rainy episodes and a drop in temperatures, the vines' vegetative cycle was 3 weeks ahead. The good conditions of May favoured a homogeneous flowering. The dry, sunny summer brought good thermal amplitudes, ensuring an optimal ripening of the grapes. In mid-August, stormy days benefitted the vineyards by helping to ripen the fruit. The hot, dry conditions allowed for a harvest of small berries at optimum concentrations.

The Château Haut-Batailley 2020 was aged for 14 months in barrels, 60% of which was new oak.

The property

A Fifth Grand Cru Classe in the Official Classification of 1855, Château Haut-Batailley is a benchmark of quality in the Pauillac appellation. Its name is derived from the word “battle”, in memory of the battles that allegedly took place on the estate at the end of the Hundred Years War, in the 15th century. Since 2017, Château Haut-Batailley has been run by the Cazes family, who continue the work initiated by the Borie family since 1930. Today they continue to produce wines of great style and quality from this essential Médoc estate, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

The terroir of Château Haut-Batailley covers around 40 hectares, including 22 hectares of vineyards that are 35 years old on average.
